Important Emergency Notice

Able Social Housing is not an emergency service and cannot guarantee immediate accommodation. If someone is in immediate danger, at risk of harm, or needs urgent medical or police assistance, contact emergency services immediately on 999. If someone is homeless or at risk of homelessness, they should also contact their local council homelessness team as soon as possible.

Emergency accommodation provides a safe place to stay for people who cannot remain in their current housing or have nowhere suitable to live. Our service combines furnished accommodation with practical support, helping vulnerable adults regain stability while longer term housing options are considered.

A Safe Place to Stay

Emergency accommodation gives individuals access to a secure, furnished place to live when their current housing situation is unsafe, unstable or no longer available. It provides immediate breathing space and protection during a difficult or uncertain period.

What is Emergency Accommodation?

Practical Support Included

Residents receive more than just a room. Our team provides housing related support, regular wellbeing contact and practical guidance based on assessed needs, helping each person settle in, manage their accommodation and access relevant services.

A Route Towards Stability

Emergency accommodation is intended to provide short term stability while the next stage is considered. We work with the resident and any professionals involved to support progress towards greater independence and a more suitable longer term housing arrangement.

 Experiencing Homelessness

People who are homeless, sleeping rough or staying somewhere temporary without a secure tenancy may need urgent access to safe, suitable emergency accommodation and practical support today.

Vulnerable Adults in Housing Crisis

Adults facing a sudden breakdown in housing, support networks or personal circumstances may need a stable temporary home while their immediate needs and longer term options are considered.

Who May Need Emergency Accommodation?

We understand that urgent situations arise where stability and safety are at risk. Our emergency housing support is designed to review enquiries from those facing immediate housing challenges.

Immediate Risk of Homelessness

Individuals who are sofa surfing, facing eviction or likely to lose their current home may need temporary accommodation and practical support before their situation becomes more urgent.

Low to Medium Support Needs

People who can live with some independence but need practical guidance, regular wellbeing contact or help managing everyday responsibilities may benefit from supported emergency accommodation.

Leaving Unsafe Accommodation

People who must leave their current home because of domestic abuse, exploitation, violence, intimidation or another serious concern may require safe emergency accommodation at short notice.

No Safe Home Available

Individuals whose living arrangements have ended unexpectedly and who have no safe or suitable home to return to may need temporary accommodation and practical support at short notice.

What Happens Next

We understand that asking for emergency accommodation can come at a stressful and uncertain time. Our team will review your enquiry carefully, gather any information we need and keep you informed throughout the process. We aim to make each stage clear, respectful and as straightforward as possible.

1

Enquiry Review

Our team will begin by reviewing the information provided about the individual’s current housing situation, immediate needs and any known risks. This helps us understand the urgency of the enquiry and whether our emergency accommodation service may be appropriate.

2

Information Gathering

We may contact the individual, referrer or professionals involved to clarify important details or request supporting information. This allows us to build a fuller picture of the person’s circumstances, support needs and the type of accommodation required.

3

Suitability Assessment

We will assess whether our accommodation and level of support can meet the individual’s needs safely and appropriately. This includes considering risk, independence, support requirements, location and whether the available environment would provide a suitable placement.

4

Check Availability

Once suitability has been considered, we will check our current emergency accommodation vacancies. We will look for a safe and appropriate room or property that matches the person’s circumstances as closely as possible.

5

Next Steps Guidance

Where the enquiry is accepted and suitable accommodation is available, we will explain the offer and arrange the practical next steps. This may include confirming the move in date, required documents and the support available on arrival.

6

Signposting Support

Where we cannot offer a suitable placement, we will explain the outcome as clearly as possible. Where appropriate, we may also suggest other housing routes, local services or partner organisations that could provide further help.
