Important Emergency Notice

Able Social Housing is not an emergency service and cannot guarantee immediate accommodation. If someone is in immediate danger, at risk of harm, or needs urgent medical or police assistance, contact emergency services immediately on 999. If someone is homeless or at risk of homelessness, they should also contact their local council homelessness team as soon as possible.

Request Urgent Housing Support

If you or someone you support urgently needs a safe place to stay, an emergency housing enquiry can be submitted to Able Social Housing. This may be appropriate where someone is homeless, sofa surfing, at risk of losing their accommodation or unable to remain safely where they are currently living.

Our team will review the person’s circumstances, support needs, known risks and the urgency of the situation. We will then consider whether our temporary supported accommodation may be suitable and check what appropriate housing is currently available.

This form is intended for situations where someone urgently needs safe, temporary accommodation and cannot remain in their current housing. It may be suitable where a person is homeless, sofa surfing, facing eviction, leaving an unsafe home or has unexpectedly lost their place to stay.

  • Currently homeless

  • Sofa surfing

  • At risk of homelessness

  • Leaving unsafe accommodation

  • Facing family breakdown

  • Losing their current housing

Information We Need to Help You

To assess an emergency housing enquiry properly, we need enough information to understand the person’s circumstances and the type of accommodation and support they may require.

The form will ask for personal details, current housing circumstances, the reason accommodation is needed urgently and any relevant support, health or mobility needs. We will also ask about known risks, safeguarding concerns and any professionals or services currently involved.

Please provide, where available:

  • Full contact details

  • Current housing circumstances

  • Reason housing is needed

  • Support requirements

  • Facing family breakdown

  • Losing their current housing

  • Without a safe home

  • In need of temporary support

Providing complete and accurate information helps us review the enquiry quickly and reduces the need for delays while we request further details.

What Happens After You Enquire?

1

Initial Review

Our team will review the information provided about the person’s housing circumstances, immediate needs and any known risks. This helps us understand the urgency of the situation and whether our emergency housing service may be appropriate.

4

Availability Check

Once suitability has been considered, we will check our current emergency accommodation vacancies. We will look for a safe and appropriate room or property that matches the person’s circumstances, needs and preferred location as closely as possible.

We understand that waiting for an urgent housing decision can feel stressful. Our team will review the information carefully, communicate clearly and aim to make the process as straightforward and supportive as possible. We aim to house all suitable enquiries within 48 hours.

2

Friendly Phone Call

We may contact the individual, referrer or professionals involved to clarify important details or request supporting documents. This allows us to gain a fuller understanding of the person’s circumstances and support requirements.

5

Placement Arranged

Where the enquiry is accepted and suitable accommodation is available, we will explain the offer and arrange the practical next steps. This may include confirming the move in date, required documents, arrival details and the support available.

3

Suitability Assessment

We will consider whether our accommodation and available support can meet the person’s needs safely. This includes reviewing their independence, support needs, known risks, location requirements and the type of environment required.

6

Alternative Support

Where we cannot offer suitable accommodation, we will explain the outcome as clearly as possible. Where appropriate, we may also suggest alternative housing routes, local services or partner organisations that may be able to provide further help.

Before You Submit

To help us review an emergency housing enquiry as quickly as possible, please provide clear and accurate information about the person’s current housing situation, support needs, known risks and contact details. Missing information may delay the assessment, particularly where we need to confirm safeguarding concerns, professional involvement or suitability for available accommodation.

Where someone else is making the enquiry, the person needing housing should know that the form is being submitted and should agree to their information being shared wherever possible.

Our 48 Hour Housing Aim

  • We aim to review completed enquiries promptly

  • Suitable applicants may be housed within 48 hours

  • Accommodation must be available and appropriate

  • All required information must be provided

  • Suitability and risk checks must be completed

  • The individual or referrer will be kept informed

Our 48 hour timeframe is an aim rather than a guarantee and remains subject to assessment, suitability, availability and receipt of all required information.

Submit Your Enquiry

Our emergency housing enquiry form is designed to make requesting urgent accommodation as clear and straightforward as possible. It can be completed by the person needing housing or by a family member, advocate or professional supporting them.

The form asks for the details we need to understand the person’s immediate housing situation, support requirements, known risks and current circumstances. This allows our team to assess whether our temporary supported accommodation may be suitable and whether an appropriate placement is available.

All information will be handled confidentially and used only to review the enquiry, complete relevant checks and communicate the outcome. Once the form has been submitted, our team will begin the assessment and contact the individual or referrer if any further information is needed.
