Feel Safe and Content
Our self referral process is designed to be simple, respectful and easy to understand. From your first enquiry through to referral review and next steps, our team will look at your housing situation, support needs and suitability for available accommodation.
Step 1: Submit Your Referral
Landlords start by sharing key property details, including the location, property type, number of rooms, current condition, available compliance information and the expected monthly rent, so we can assess whether the property may be suitable for our guaranteed rent scheme.
The Self Referral Process in Three Simple Steps
Step 2: We Review Your Details
Once your referral is received, our team will review the information carefully. We look at your housing need, support requirements, safety, suitability and any additional information that may help us decide the most appropriate next steps. You will be kept up to date throughout.
Step 3: Safe Housing Placement
Once your referral is accepted and suitable accommodation is available, we will work to place you in housing that matches your needs as closely as possible. This includes considering your support requirements, safety, location and the type of accommodation available.

The Self Referral Assessment Conversation
When you contact us for a self referral, we will have a supportive conversation to understand your needs. To ensure we can offer the right environment for you, we will carefully discuss several key areas of your life, including your current housing status, why you feel supported housing is the right choice, and any risks or professional involvement.
- Current Housing Status: Discussion of where you are staying, such as sofa surfing or facing homelessness risk.
- Accommodation Needs: Why supported housing is your preferred choice at this time.
- Personal Support: Exploring specific areas where practical assistance would make the most difference.
- Safety & Risk: Maintaining safe communities through transparent discussion of support needs and safety.
- Financial Sustainability: Ensuring accommodation is sustainable through benefit and income reviews.
- Professional Support: Coordinating care with existing social workers, probation, or health services.
- Urgency level: Clarifying timelines or critical deadlines for your move.

Submit Your Enquiry
We understand that reaching out for supported housing can feel like a big step. Our self referral form is designed to make the process simple, respectful and easy to follow.
The form asks for key information about your current housing situation, support needs and any risks or concerns we should be aware of. This helps our team review your circumstances carefully and understand whether Able Social Housing may be able to help.
All information you provide will be treated confidentially and used only to assess your referral and explain the next steps. Once your form has been submitted, our team will review the details and contact you for a clear, supportive conversation about what may happen next.
What Happens After You Refer
1
Initial Review
Once we receive your self referral form, our team will carefully review the information you have shared. We will look at your housing situation, support needs and any immediate concerns, so we can understand whether our supported accommodation may be suitable for you.
4
Suitability Review
After we have gathered the information we need, we will carefully consider whether our accommodation is the right fit for you. We look at your support needs, safety, available housing options, location preferences and whether we can provide the right level of support to help you settle and move forward.
We understand that waiting for a housing decision can feel stressful, so we aim to make our assessment process clear, respectful and supportive from the start. Once we receive your self referral, our team will review the information carefully and aim to respond within 48 hours. Our goal is to understand your situation, check whether our accommodation is the right fit and explain the next steps as clearly as possible.
2
Friendly Phone Call
If we think we may be able to help, a member of our team will contact you for a friendly phone conversation. This is not a formal interview. It is simply a chance to understand your situation better, answer your questions and explain what may happen next.
5
Official Decision
We will contact you directly once a decision has been made. If we can offer accommodation, we will explain the next steps clearly. If we cannot help at this time, we will try to explain why and, where possible, suggest other services that may be able to support you.
3
Checking Information
We may need to check some information or ask for documents to support your referral. This could include ID, housing information or details from someone involved in your support. We will explain what is needed and help make the process as clear as possible.
6
Moving In
If a suitable place is offered and you choose to accept it, we will support you through the move in process. You will be welcomed, shown around, given key information and introduced to the support available to help you settle in safely.
